Freeland Lions Annual Activities

January

  • Walleye Festival planning meetings start every Monday evening 7 PM at Township Hall on 2nd Street until Walleye Festival..

  • Supported Anderson Eye Foundation

July

  • Summer Concert series at Tittabawassee Township Park. Cook hot dogs and bratwursts and do concession sales.
  • Tittabawassee Township 9th Annual "Concerts in the Park"
  • July 14th "Stand Back"
  • July 18th Gospel Sunday (4-5 bands) 1-5 pm
  • July 28th "Steel Wheels"

February

  • Spelling Bee yearly donation for Saginaw County.

  • Continue Walleye Festival Planning.

August

  • Camp Quality for Kids with Cancer, one day Camp we cook for the kids and staff.

  • $2,000.00 annnual donation to Camp Quality
  • Tittabawassee Township 9th Annual "Concerts in the Park"
    • August 11th "Hitmen"
    • August 25th "Voo Doo Lounge"

March

  • Hold Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner to support the Tammy Hafer Fund. Help needed for set up and teardown.

  • Continue Walleye Frestival Planning.

September

  • We participate in the annual Homecoming Parade by entering a float.

  • Freeland Youth Football donation.

  • Hold our annual new member steak fry.

April

  • Annual Walleye Festival. This is the number one event for all members to become involved. It is long, tiring, 4 days of intense work. Help is needed in the following areas: Sponsor Calls, Gambling, Beer Tent, Promotional, Weigh In, Fish Pond, and Car Show.

  • Annual donation to the Freeland Little League.

  • Annual Easter Egg Hunt donation with Pat's Food Center.

October

  • Sponsor the annual Halloween Party with Pat's Food Center.

  • Members volunteer for Township Haunted House.

May

  • Freeland Community Sports Association commitment payment.

  • Minimum of two $1,000.00 College Scholarships to Freeland High School Seniors are awarded each year.

  • Project Prom donation.

November

  • Annual Las Vegas Night that generates the club over $10,000.00. Held on the 1st Saturday in November.

    Each member will be asked to sell 4 tickets. You buy them or sell them.

    All members are asked to participate and help to make this event a success. This is one of our biggest fundraisers and a total effort is expected.

    We need, dealers, 50/50 sellers, chip counters, bartenders, pit bosses, set-up, teardown and clean-up help.

June

  • Annual Awards Banquet where we honor all Lions and their ladies. Lion of the Year and Melvin Jones awarded.

  • The 2nd Saturday of June is our annual Golf Outing that raises over $3,000.00 per year for the Tammy Hafer Fund. This is another highly visible event requiring a full efort by our membership, IE: Sponsor calls, Donation Requests, Pig Roast, and on Course workers.

    • June 16th (5:00 - 10:00 p.m.) "Butch Heath Country Classic"
    • June 30th "Sinclairs"

December

  • Our annual Christmas Party for residents of Freeland. 1st Saturday of December. Planning, set-up and teardown requires membership help.

  • Citizen of the Year Awarded.

  • Turkeys are donated to area churches for distribution to needy families.

  • Donation for fabric for Christmas Stockings to be made by inmates.

  • No meetings in December. The Christmas Party is considered to be the event for the month. All members should attend.

Club income is generated from the following: Inclusive of dues, Golf Outing, Las Vegas Night, Mint Sales, Summer Concert's, The Walleye Tournament.

District Projects Budgeted include, All-State Band, Diabetes Research, Hearing Impaired, L.C.I.F., Leader Dog, Leader Dog Building Fund, Michigan Eye Bank, Paws for Cause, Special Needs Clinic and Welcome Home. We also donate an additional $1,500.00 to Special Needs Clinic this year in their time of need.

Other local projects we budget and donate to are the "100" Club, Local Eye Glasses and Exams, Project Prom, and the Tammy Hafer Fund.
